My pets regularly participate in Shed-a-thons so vacuuming just always needed to be done much more than it actually got done. When my old vac started to spew more than it was picking up I looked into the dyson and other models. I ran across the Roomba reviews and thought it sounded pretty good. It worked incredibly well! I was amazed at how you could let the little rascal go while you did other things and, presto, a super clean carpet. Sure, it missed corners and didn’t do stairs, but for me having my main living areas Roomba’d each day would be a miracle. Then my Roomba stopped picking up fur. Turns out the cat fur (it’s always the cat!) got so wrapped up in the axle it went into the axle casing and stopped the brush from spinning. I was devastated! I had cleaned out the brushes faithfully but it turns out you need to clean the fur off the axles after every five or so uses. It’s on their site, not their instruction book (which is cryptic at best). But, the company is sending me a new Roomba body to replace my injured one. Now I know to clean it really well so the fur doesn’t get wrapped and trapped. For me it’s worth it I think to do that rather than use a traditional vac. I’ll keep you posted.
