Introduction
You probably read this review because you want to know if it is worth it to spend more than $399 on a vacuum cleaner. I’ll tell you why I decided to buy the Dyson DC07 Vacuum cleaner. We received a Hoover vacuum cleaner for our wedding present in 2001. In 2003, we were wondering why there wasn’t that much dust or dirt on our carpet when we vacuumed it with the Hoover vacuum cleaner, we thought our place was very clean because the Hoover vacuum cleaner dust and dirt container was always empty after we vacuumed the carpet.
What happened next?
I started to get very suspicious, from Jan 2003 to March 2003, there was hardly any dust or dirt on the carpet. I said to my wife “There is something wrong with the Hoover Vacuum cleaner.” So I decided to go to Best Buy to shop around for a new vacuum cleaner.
The first thing I saw was the Yellow Dyson DC07, because it just arrived that year, it was standing there on a display. I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to spend $499 on a Vacuum cleaner, but since there was 15 days return policy, I told myself, “If I don’t like it, I’ll just return it.” I bought the the Dyson DC07 that afternoon and went home.
I took the Dyson vacuum home and the first thing my wife saw was the price of the vacuum on the return receipt, I remember she said “Why did you spend $499 on a vacuum cleaner?!?!?!” I had to do a lot of convincing that afternoon and I had to do a demonstration for my wife.
Dyson DC07 showed us the truth about our carpet
We decided to give it a try and we saw it with our own eyes that Dyson DC07 is an EXTREMELY strong vacuum! The first run we did on our carpet in the living room, the Dyson sucked a lot of dirt, hair and dust from our carpet and the container was filled with dirt, dust and hair within less than 10 minutes! We were so disgusted by looking at the stuff inside the container. We thought the carpet was clean because Hoover vacuum cleaner didn’t suck anything.
So since the container was full from the first run, we had to empty the container. We did a second run and I almost collapsed, again, Dyson vacuum sucked a lot of hair, dust and dirt off the carpet and filled up the container.
OK it took two runs to clean the whole entire living room, we could actually feel that the carpet was clean! We went to the bed room and it took only one run to clean the bed room, but again the container was full! We went around the house and vacuumed upstairs and downstairs and we actually felt good that we bought a powerful vacuum cleaner.
Why Did I Buy the Dyson DC07 and Decide to Keep It?
I have owned this Dyson for 5 years now and these are the reasons why I love this Dyson very much.
- The Dyson is an extremely strong vacuum cleaner. The vortex sucking power is very powerful! This vacuum will almost suck anything that you place in front of it.
- The reversible wand. If you look at the handle of the Vacuum, you can disconnect the hose from the handle of the vacuum and connect it again in reverse and you can use it to vacuum stairs and high places. I love this feature, because now we can vacuum hard reach corners. The Dyson comes with 3 different hard to reach vacuum tips, the brush, the long skinny one and the flat one.
- It is very easy to clean! When there is too much hair in the bottom on of the Vacuum and it is started to clog the vacuum, you can easily clean the hair and the dust that clog the bottom of the vacuum dust and dirt entry point. You can use a pair of scissors to cut the hair and pull the hair out and then you spray it with multipurpose cleaner, wipe it with paper towel and wala, you have a fresh and clean vacuum again. The Dyson will work like a new vacuum cleaner again!
- As long as you clean the filters and inside the canister, you vacuum will keep working great! It is very easy to do, just disconnect and disassemble the canister and filter from the vacuum and shake the dust and the dirt off. Make sure you do this outside the house.
- The Dyson DC07 is an extremely strong and durable vacuum cleaner, and it never breaks for 5 years now. You’ll get your money worth.
- Long power cable. I love the fact that Dyson comes with a long cable because I can almost vacuum the whole entire living room and bed room without unplugging the power. It is very easy to unwind and wind the cable.
- It is bag less vacuum and it is hygienic, quick and very easy to empty and clean the dust and dirt canister. It is very easy to remove and put the canister back in the vacuum.
- It comes with Lifetime HEPA filter, it is important because my daughter and I are allergic to dust.
- It has built-in storage room for all the tools. I love this part because we don’t lose the tools that come with a vacuum cleaner anymore, everything is attached to the vacuum.
- It does have a brush control that allows you to switch a mode between a bare floor and a carpet.
- I love the fact that the Dyson DC07 is a bagless vacuum cleaner, you don’t need to buy a replacement bag anymore and that will save you money.
What I don’t like about the Dyson DC07?
Well nothing is perfect and this vacuum is no exception. These are the things I don’t like about the Dyson Dc07:
- It is very heavy, yes the vacuum cleaner is very heavy, it is not very easy for a petite person, like my wife to carry the vacuum to upstairs room.
- Hair often gets stuck in on wheel brush in the bottom of the vacuum and it will jam the vacuum. The solution is very easy for this problem, open the cover in the bottom by using a quarter or a screw driver. Get a pair of scissors and cut the hair off the wheel brush. Make sure you spray off all the dust and the dirt off the bottom part of the vacuum to make the vacuum to work like new again.
- There is this plastic part near the bottom of the vacuum that allows the vacuum to tilt, sometimes that bottom part comes off and I had to put it back. It is very tricky, you gotta be careful when you place this part back, otherwise, you can break it if you force it.
- The price! Although the price of DC07 has come down from $499 to $399, it is still expensive!
- It is loud but Hoover and Shark vacuum cleaners are louder. The Dyson DC07 is not loud at all compared to the Hoover and the Shark vacuum cleaners, but it does make a lot of noise.
- They say, Dyson will never lose suction, well that’s half-the truth. It can lose suction if you don’t maintain it and clean it, like the hair, the dirt and dust that are clogging the bottom wheel part. Another thing, the filter inside the canister needs to be shaken off outside to remove the residue. Like any other things in the world, we need to maintain it in order to keep it running. Dyson vacuum does need a regular maintenance. The maintenance instructions are on the web site.
Will I recommend the Dyson DC07 to my friend and family? (Especially the ones with allergy problem)
Yes! I really recommend you to buy this vacuum. You have my blessing to get one of this. Since the DC07 is the cheapest of the Dyson models, you’ll be very happy with your purchase. It will suck a lot of dust, hair and dirt out of your carpet. If you have allergy like me, it will help reduce your allergy because it really control the amount of the allergen on the carpet.
Conclusion
The Dyson DC07 is a AWESOME vacuum cleaner with an AWESOME powerful sucking power! This vacuum is like a miracle and a breakthrough in vacuum cleaner technology. It is very easy to clean and it is perfect for those who have allergy problem to dust, dirt and pollen. It won’t cure your allergy completely but it will control it. You may need to get air filter to take the rest of the pollen and dust from the air.
Since the price of the DC07 is now reduced from $499 to $399, Dyson DC07 is a good buy and your hard earned money will be worth it.
