I’m sure my parents were thrilled when there 21 year old son asked for a sweeper for his birthday, but that’s exactly what happened. My parents chose to get me a Hoover Upright Bagless, which actually wasn’t the one I wanted. However, they made a very good choice.

The week of my birthday my family had gone to war with the floors in our living room. We swept them, cleaned them twice with a steam cleaner, and then swept them two more times. We felt that we had done quite a job. Then I opened my gifts. “Wow! A sweeper! Thanks mom and dad!! Just what I’ve always wanted! Let’s hook it up and see how it works.” (You get the picture.) After putting the oddly colored contraption together, I turned it on and took it for a test drive across the freshly cleaned carpet. What happened next will go down in the annals of history as the best home product demonstration…ever. After going about six feet the dust compartment was almost full. That either means that we did a really crappy job on our floors, or this was one heck of a sweeper. (Oh, it was the later.)

This sweeper knocked us off our feet and almost became a family member. (Just kidding, but we were very impressed.) It picks up everything but the carpet itself, and I’m not exaggerating.

The only drawback of this sweeper is that it loses its cleaning power as the dust chamber fills because it blocks the airflow. Now, I really don’t know much about sweepers with bags, but I don’t think this happens. You have to stop every now and then (depending on how big of an area you are cleaning) to clean out the nasty. All of the attachments are on board, so that is very handy, and the glowing green color grows on you after a little while.

This sweeper also features a HEPA filtration system, so it’s good if you have allergies. (Although, you can get dust everywhere when emptying the dust compartment, so I’m not too sure you’d want a bagless if you have bad allergies.) I’m also not too convinced that a little filter on the exhaust of a sweeper will really improve the air quality in your home.

Attachments for this sweeper are on-board which comes in handy. However, one of the brushes is placed oddly and can pop off every now and then. The hose is a little stiff, so it doesn’t stretch all to great, but it gets better everytime we use it.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive and powerful sweeper, this is the one for you.
