I was in immediate need of a vacuum, did not know about this site, tried to get some info on the internet, did some hurried homework and bought this Dirt Devil. I felt that the name was a reliable one and according to the box it had many features I wanted.

PROS: As for the normal wall to wall carpet with no height or texture changes it’s power and pick-up is great! I was very surprised at the amount of dirt it picked up and gave me the feeling that my carpets were really being cleaned. I still feel that way. The power when using the attachments is also very strong.

The dirt container is easy to remove and empty. The hepa filter seems to work good. I don’t notice the usual dust around the vacuum that I would get with older vacuums.

The Hide-a-Hose handle is very easy to get to when neededand the edge-wedge tool works great.

CONS: On non-carpeted floors it tends to throw the dirt around rather than pick it up. I find myself having to go over the same areas many times. If you have to change carpets, go over a room divider, go from a floor to a carpet or let the rear wheels go off the edge of the carpet they get hung up. It is quite a struggle and usually I have to raise the handle to the storage point and pick the vacuum up.

The advertise about the long hose in the Hide-a-Hose handle is a misconception. It hides so good that it is a struggle to extend the hose out of the handle to use. It usually takes two hands (one to vacuum with and the other to keep the hose pulled out). In order to use the hose without tipping the vacuum over you have to stretch it and hook an attached clip in a hole at the base of the vacuum, using up quite a bit of the length. This shortens your reachable area considerable and makes the extra hose they advertise on the box useless.

The location of the help filter should have received a little more testing. I find that my hepa filter cover get knocked off easily. A little bump on a piece of furniture or a tight spot will cause it to come off and it isn’t as easy to replace as it looks.

The dirt container isn’t replaced as easily as it is removed. I find that most of the time it takes a light tap of the hand to get it to catch properly. It looks as if it is in place, but you notice that the container is not filling and that it didn’t catch just right. The see through container comes in very handy.

The scuff guard bumper has already come off one side of my vacuum and I had to take the screws out of the bottom as if changing the belt in order to replace it properly. This wasn’t as much of a problem as it could have been as I was familiar with the screws. I had to replace the belt the 3rd time I used the vacuum. It got caught on the fringe on the edge of a persian carpet and broke the belt. It did come with an extra belt and I was thankful for that.

This vacuum came with only three attachments. The wand, edge wedge and a square brush. I was a little disappointed there, as I thought it had a few more. You have to purchase them separately.

Over all I am happy with the power, but very disappointed with the design and other features. I wish I had shopped a little further before purchasing a vacuum.
