I received the Oreck Rense A Matic as a gift from my sister in law. I have a dog and so every now and then, I need to steam my carpet. The box came along with the Steamer and a set of carpet shampoo cleaners. The steamer material is all plastic. You will need to assemble them. Very easy, took less than 15 minutes to assemble it.

The cleaning ability of the Oreck steamer is amazing. It’s so good that it kind of made me gross out at how dirty my carpet is. To use the steamer, you will need to fill the “bottom front” container with hot/warm water. Next, you’ll need to install the Oreck carpet shampoo. Just plug and steam away.

The good:

Clean my carpet extremely well. At least it works. As far as cleaning goes, it is worth every penny of that $399.00.

The bad:

The Built: It’s all plastic and cheap looking. Not worth the $400 bill. The wheels are big and bulky and does not have a “lock” when setting it upright like a vacuum. It just rests very uneasily upright and easily snaps back and forth from upright to “cleaning position”. This steamer does not move easily around the room. Very bulky and clumsy feel when in use.

1.) These shampoo container is only 15 fl. Oz and will clean up to an estimated 220 sq ft. Unfortunately, many times, I had to go over an area more than once and I don’t believe it covers the 220 sq. ft. before I need to replace them again. Now let me tell you about this special shampoo container, it costs $7.99 per container. That’s right. $8 bucks. So imagine if you have a 2,000 sq ft home to steam. It will cost you as much as $50-$80 every time you decide to steam and that’s not including labor. It is exclusively design for Oreck’s Steamers so there is no other cheaper alternatives.

My solution: After using the shampoo, instead of throwing the containers away. I carefully popped open the top using a butter knife. I replace the shampoo with regular carpet shampoos that I bought at Wal-mart. After its filled, I carefully pop back the top and I have my self a reusable container.

2.) Steaming itself is extremely annoying. Due to the horrible design flaw, the steamer CAN NOT move FORWARD. It is steamed BACK WARD motion. So you have to lift the head and push the steamer forward. Next, you set the steamer head down…pull back and clean. Repeat the steps until you need to replace the clean water or shampoo. You will not be able to move forward and backward motion like you would with a vacuum.

Overall, its still a very good carpet cleaning machine but it is not a bang for the buck due to its expensive shampoo containers and clunky design making it harder than it is to shampoo.

Ease of Use: 1/5 stars. Very clunky and have to lift the steamer’s head to be able to move forward.

Material/Supplies: 2/5 stars: too expensive, $8 for 15 fl oz shampoo.

Durability: Unknown at this time. Only owned it for 2 months.

Overall: 2.5/5. I can not recommend this product despite its amazing cleaning ability. The flaws and expenses can not be justify. I believe there are other better deals out there such as the Bissell (which I use to own), Dirt Devil, Hoover, etc.
