My wife and I decided to get a new vacuum. She had a problem constantly burning up belts with the Hoover Bagless that we had(she always leaves the carpet height adjustment too low)and the replacement belts are tough to find because it is not a “Windtunnel” Bagless which take a different size belt.Anyways… so I had some gift cards and went down to Best Buy to make a purchase.I was only looking for a bagless vacuum and was considering the Dyson but did not want to spend $500 dollars on a vacuum(even though I had $200 in gift cards). And then there it was in all it’s glory the Hoover Windtunnel 2 Bagless. It was feature rich and seemed very impressive.Electronic height adjustment and a self-cleaning permanent HEPA filter. But the one thing that really sealed the deal for me was the lifetime belt that never needs replacement. The vacuum came almost fully assembled and the rest of the assembly was not too difficult. My first impression of this vacuum was great.I have wood floors in the main part of the house and the dog hair and dust was pulled right to the machine like a magnet. Then I attacked the couch with the air powered brush attatchment. The suction was great but the air powered attatchment was more of a chore to use.It takes about 10 seconds for the brush to fully spin and half a second to stop when contact is made with the couch. Then after a few passes the hair got caught in the roller and stopped the brush completely. After spending a couple of times cleaning the roller I gave up and used the non-powered attatchment. The attatchment hose designed into the handle was nice and easy to use.It pulls right from the handle quickly and makes it easy to go from couch to floor cleaning. The vacuum canister is large capacity and I filled it up when I vacuumed the bedroom carpet.I was very impressed with how much dirt and hair it picked up from the carpet. As I was using it I noticed the self-cleaning HEPA filter slowly spinning and vibrating to clean itself. The noise of the vacuum is what you would expect. Not super loud(a tad quieter than my previous Hoover)but with that much suction power I do expect some noise.I did not experience the problem(in the beginning) that others had with the extra dirt coming down after removing the dirt canister. The dirt canister has a latch for opening the bottom for easy dirt removal and I did not find a problem with that.So everything worked fine for 2 months untill yesterday.I went to vacuum the couch and I noticed that the canister was full.Pulled out the canister and found a bunch of hair and dirt stuck in the suction hole.I made an attempt to remove all of the hair with my finger and got most of it.With the canister now emptied I re-installed and turned it on.I noticed the suction on the hose was very weak.So I shut it off to check for a problem and could hear another noise like a motor jammed as the vacuum shut down.Turned it back on and saw the self-cleaning filter was stuck and not moving.I took out the canister and reached up inside to finally experience the joy of dirt, dust, and dog hair dropping out all over the floor and the vacuum.I took it outside(after using my handy shop vac to clean up the mess)and reached up inside the filter compartment to remove the rest of the debris. It seems my wife sucked up a paper clip and it got stuck and jammed the filter motor.A $300 dollar vacuum defeated by a paper clip!It was too late now.The paper clip permanently damaged the filter motor.Hoover Windtunnel 2 rest in peace(actually pieces after I was done with it).So I finally got smart and went on Consumer Reports and found the highly rated Eureka(bagged) for $138 and I am very happy with that(so far).So if you are considering on purchasing this vacuum…don’t.
