My experience using the Eureka 437AZ Blagless Upright Vacuum

The Optima is a nice addition to our collection of vacuum cleaners around the house. We have a large yellow Labrador retriever and 3 long hair cats. The main use for this vacuum is to attack the endless supply of pet fur that coats and glistens above our wood floors. Sadly, we have made the wrong choice in vacuum cleaners for our problem.

Why I purchased the Eureka 437AZ Blagless Upright Vacuum

Prior to the Eureka Optima, we managed the onslaught of pet fur with a commercial version of a Back Pac Shop Vac. As you can imagine, it was a pain to strap on a backpack vacuum, however given a long enough extension cord one can vacuum the entire 4000 sq ft house in 20 minutes. The Back Pac Shop Vac uses dust bags, which at $3.00 a bag gets expensive pretty fast, especially on routine pet fur collection expeditions.

On a routine trip to Costco, I spotted the Eureka 437 Optima Bagless Upright vacuum. The box and vacuum looked appealing. The following features appealed to me:

-Lightweight

-Bagless

-HEPA Filter

-Ability to turn off beater bar

-Inexpensive, for $70, compared to the $600 yellow vacuum on the next shelf.

-No Back Pac Straps

What I love about the vacuum

I did not use this vacuum long enough to fall in love with it. It is best to end bad relationships early.

What do I hate about this vacuum?

I’ll cut to the chase on this. The vacuum has powerful suction, however the fan blast is ducted OUT THE FRONT and AIMED towards the FLOOR. If you can picture this, you have a floor covered in pet fur, you turn the Optima towards the corner where a giant wad of pet fur is waiting to be sucked up, however the fan blast blows the dust and fur UP and INTO the air before the suction has a chance to suck up the fur.

I’m not disputing all the other qualities, if we had carpet or wanted to clean up anything other than light dust and pet fur then great, enjoy. However this model is heading to the garage sale or a needy family with Carpet.

It is SO BAD with dust and pet fur that I wonder if Eureka did any usability studies for this particular model.
