Overall very happy with Hoover Floormate - Hoover Floormate H3000 Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum Although pricey, I feel this is a very good appliance. I like that you don't push dirty water around like mopping ...

We have five rooms in our home that have either slate or ceramic tile floors. Most of our ceramic tile has indentations in the tiles and then there’s the grout, making the floors a less than flat surface. We’ve been paying $150. a pop just to have a company come in to clean the kitchen tile alone so when I saw the ads for the Hoover Floor Mate, I thought the price (paid $179 + tax) would be well worth it if we could clean our own floors.

Brought the Floor Mate home and found it easy to put together and prepare for use. Following the instructions, I first used it to vacuum the floor. That was my first disappointment. Suction of the Floor Mate is very poor and it left crumbs, etc. So I got my Hoover vacuum cleaner out and vacuumed the tile. (Hoover makes great vacuum cleaners.)

Next step: scrub the tile with the Floor Mate. Second disappointment. We have a small rug next to the sink and so the tile under the rug stays clean. It makes it easy to measure the difference between clean tile and dirty tile. After scrubbing the kitchen tile for over an hour, the dirty tile still looked dirty. Why? The Floor Mate scrubbed the “high” surfaces of the tiles but the brushes rode above the indentations and didn’t touch those or the grout. It was able to suck up most of the water from those areas as long as I was patient and positioned the Floor Mate carefully right above to grout lines and let it sit for a few moments.

It was easy to clean up the machine. That was a plus because it then made the trip back to the store where I returned it.

My evaluation: not a vacuum but would probably be a fairly good scrubbing machine for wood and smooth vinyl floors. Given its limitations, the price needs to come down or the abilities of this machine need to be improved upon. Perhaps “floating brushes” and interchangeable soft and stiff brushes would do the trick. Until then, pass on this machine.
