Don’t throw out your mop! - Hoover Floormate H3000 Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum I've had my Floormate for a couple of years now and don't use it as much as I thought that I would. This is becau...
When I first bought my Floor Mate, I thought that using it would be just like using my vacuum cleaner: a few passes over the floor and you’re done. I was very disappointed to find that it isn’t that quick or simple. In my kitchen, if there’s anything dried or sticky on the floor, the Floor Mate alone won’t get it; I have to carry a small scraper blade. That’s because the brushes were made soft to avoid scratching wood floors. But because I’m primarily using it to clean tile, I wish that the brushes were much stiffer and could REALLY scrub. They don’t. I’m hoping that Hoover will someday sell a stiffer set of brushes that you could replace the standard ones with.
All that said, after I got over my initial disappointment, I have come to like my Floor Mate. I don’t feel that it saves me any time over mopping — the main disappointment — but I do feel that it does a better job than I would with my mop and a bucket of dirty water that I would constantly have to rinse, so it makes the chore a bit less unpleasant.
Typically I use a broom to sweep the big chunks and loose bits off of the floor, and then go over it with the Floor Mate, just like I would have done with my mop. The dry pick up feature isn’t that impressive, and I just don’t like the idea of going over everything twice (once for wet, once for dry).
I like having the Floor Mate for those big, thorough cleanings, but I still keep my mop for the smaller, less thorough maintenance-level cleanings, the ones I do when I don’t feel like dragging out the heavy machine, filling it up with water and solution, etc.
I would only recommend this product for homes that have large expanses of hard floors. If you’re an apartment dweller with a smaller space to clean (and less storage space), don’t bother.
