I was given a Rainbow carpet cleaning system as a wedding gift, and I was very moved by the giver’s generosity. However, the only thing good about this system is probably the salesperson, who could have sold my mother-in-law a pair of her own shoes. The first time I used it, I had to lug the water-filled canister up and down three floors of our tri-level townhouse. Then came the lovely task of emptying the disgusting dirty water. I was afraid to put it down the drain or in the toilet because I thought it would clog the pipes, so I had to lug it out to the street and pour it down the storm drain. I used it for a month hoping I would get used to it, but I gave up and bought a regular upright vacuum, which has served me quite well for nearly 10 years (see my opinion on Electrolux). I sold my Rainbow to someone with a ranch-style home (for the cost of my new vacuum, which was $300). My personal integrity would never allow me to sell it to anyone with a staircase to lug that thing up and down.
