I have lived in a one-bedroom apartment for about 10 years. When I moved in, the carpet was already about five years old.

Three weeks ago I finally got new carpeting installed, and boy was it worth the wait! A short a gray Berber; cried out for being pampered by a new vacuum cleaner. So the day it was being installed, I headed over to my local K mart to see what they had on sale. I had helped a few friends with their vacuum purchases previously, and really had my heart set on a bagless upright with a Hepa filter…for under $150….sounded like a big order…

The only choices were a Eureka Whirlwind, which a friend of mine has and even though it sounds and performs like a tight lean jet engine, the hose assembly used to get blocked by picking up his pet’s fur…you’d think they’d be designed for that…but the Hepa filter freshened his house’s air as he vacuumed, a real plus!

Anyway, another friend of mine has a Dirt Devil Swivel Glide, and I really love the benefit of swivel casters…they really improve the feel of maneuvering the vacuum cleaner. So, to my amazement, all of the features on my wish list were on the Dirt Devil Vision Lite. I paid $139 on sale from $159.

I got home, the men were just finishing up, they took off… and I unpacked and used my brand new vacuum cleaner on my brand new carpeting. A real trip, for an appliance fanatic such as myself! My grandmother had a Royal vacuum from the 50’s,a real workhorse chrome upright and I remember buying my Mom a new super-charged Hoover canister back in the early 80’s. So now it was my turn…

It worked great from the very first time! Terrific suction and the easiest vacuum to maneuver because of the swivel casters and not too noisy. After vacuuming, I checked out to see how much dirt was in the dirt container. To my amazement, it was almost 1/4 full, giving my new carpeting a thorough delinting. The only real disadvantage is the too short length of the attachment hose, and yes it can topple over the vacuum is you’re pulling too hard, but it’s not a huge sacrifice considering all of the other great features.

In conclusion, I sincerely recommend the Vision Lite because of a combination of nostalgia and support of a revolutionary company, Royal. and the superior design, both mechanically and aestheticly…and definately because of the value price for all these benefits not least of which is the Hepa filter… combined with a consistently strong and powerful motor, which for me did not overheat even after using the wind restricting attachments which normally would shut down a cheaper sweeper (oh, that’s a good one!) after an hour’s use which the Vision Lite had no problems with…finally and most importantly… it pick’s up so much stuff out of your carpet it’s unbelievable…and healthier!!
