I bought my Roomba 4100 after several years of reading about them. I bought the basic model with the idea of testing it out and if I liked the concept and performance, I would upgrade to a better model.

I bought this from the IRobot online store and paid approximately $160 including shipping. It was delivered in 4 days and was packaged very well. I bought it from IRobot

because they had a 30 day return policy. I know you can purhcase them cheaper on EBAY.

Roomba is a 13 x 13 round disc. There is not much to put together except to charge the battery for 7 hours which I did overnight. The next morning we were ready to roomba!

The operating buttons are very simple and read clean and spot - you push clean and rooma is off, whirring around the room picking up dirt, pet hair and food crumbs. Use the Spot button when you have a particularly dirty section, such as spilled dirt.

It reminds me of a pinball - when it runs into a wall, it will slightly turn to another angle. This way it can clean an entire room even full of furniture. It also is designed to fit under counters and under furniture. Very nice. It’s actually amazing to watch roomba in action. It cleans in a diagonal pattern and runs until it the battery runs depletes.

We have combination of hard wood floors and oriental carpeting and it works well on both. The only problems it had was the fringe - it does not like to go over fringe. I solved that problem by tucking the fringe under the carpet.

The roomba lasts for approximately 2 hours, after the two hours, I dumped out the waste container which was full! I was really impressed with the amount of dirt it swept up. We have a cat and a pug and the roomba is a good clean up after them. To dump the container - a push of a button lets the tray loose and simply dump it in the trash. There are no bags.

I now plug it up over night and let it clean a room while I am at work. It seems to work better in a room by room setting instead of letting it go all over the house. By cleaning a single room, roomba cleans it over and over, thus the room is cleaner.

Included were two room dividers which are devices that can limit where the roomba cleans. For example, if I didn’t want it to clean the office where there are cords, I would use it. So far, I have not used them.

I flipped it over and checked out the underside which is typical of any vacuum, there is a cleaning brush, and wheels which will need to be cleaned every 10 uses or so to keep it working well. This is the same proceedure I used with my other vacuums. Everything is labeled well for easy removal and cleaning. There are no tools required to open it up or remove any parts.

Bottom line, roomba is a wonderful vacuum, not perfect…. but then I am not a perfect vacuum cleaner either. I never can get under beds or around corners. I really enjoy the fact that my floors get cleaned while I am doing other things or at work.
