Well, I read EVERY review on the Hoover Floormate Spinscrub 500. Many thumbs up, a few thumbs down.

Being less than domestic just the fact that it multi tasks had me at hello. It vacuums, washes and dries the floor?! I’m there. Part of me said “if it sounds too good to be true….etc.” but I read a lot of positives in the 18 reviews I looked at.

I went to Bed,Bath and Beyond with my trusty 20% off coupon and ended up paying $135.00 for the Hoover Floormate Spinscrub 500. In my head I was thinking, “Well, I can always return it”, of course I had similar thoughts when my first husband asked me to marry him and I got stuck doing over 20 years hard time on the rock as I fondly called that situation. But, Bed Bath and Beyond is within minutes of my house and this wasn’t quite that serious a commitment.

Hubby (new hubby-well 22 yrs of new) went with me, we blew in and out with our Hoover Floormate Spinscrub 500. He put it together -I watched. Assembly is fairly easy though. I could have done it but I’m practicing for assisted living. You rotate the bottom handle and snap, align the control rod, push upper handle, listen for another snap. Install brushes (more snap) and nozzle and thats it. Not rocket science.

It’s easy to operate. You fill your solution tank. You step on the floor release pedal, use your on/off switch for whichever of the 3 jobs you’re performing. And you’re good to go.

Hoover Floormate Spinscrub 500 comes with two sets of bristles. I used the heavier bristles for my miles of grouted tile (1200 feet) with the regular solution, not the grout solution.The kit comes with solutions for both grouted and hard wood or non grouted tile areas. I put the measured regular solution into the solution measuring cup. I’ll use the grout solution on the next go round. Simple, easy.

The Hoover Floormate Spinscrub 500 machine is much lighter than my old one floor scrubber, it handles very nicely. I have miles of tile as I said and doing the floors did not propel me into a nap. I noticed it works much more efficiently if you take your time. I am like to cartoon the Roadrunner at everything I do. I found nice slow strokes both for washing and drying were the key. Drying time is reduced by the wet pick up. No more skating around the floor with towels on my feet.I was quite happy with the results. I even took a paper towel and wet it and washed one tile. It came up fairly clean and these are floors that hadn’t been washed in 5 months. I vacuumed the entire floor and then washed and dried, the instructions have you do it in sections.

The Hoover Floormate Spinscrub 500 handle folds down for storage. Do not store on wood surface unless cleaner is completely dry. Did I mention I love the color? I don’t imagine that’s a selling point for most but I thought it was really cute, it’s purple. Very jazzy. It has a one year warranty for normal household use which is a nice selling point, unless of coarse just being purple does it for you.

Hoover Floormate Spinscrub 500 can also be used to pick up spills (1 quart or less-no more than 1/4 inch deep) on non carpeted areas. Not for flammable liquids or chemicals.

The cleaning brushes come off for easy cleaning and can be washed in mild detergent. The nozzle detaches for cleaning. The filter also comes out for cleaning/rinsing.
