I have pets that shed alot,so I was really excited when I brought my robot home to meet them. Everyone else has thoroughly explained how this thing works, so I’ll skip the details. It cleans really well on tile and wood floors, but if you have area rugs, it has a tendancy to get stuck on them. If you run the thing while you are at work (like I do)and it gets stuck early in its travels, then not much gets acomplished. What I did was search my home trying to think like a 3 inch high round thing and then I was able to move stuff around so that he wouldn’t have any problems negotiating my floors. It is very easy to operate and clean and runs about 2 hours (and I run mine every day!) I had one very big problem with my unit though. I think it just wore out quickly due to the fact that I use it so much. It started to act just like a retarded child, going in circles and stopping after just a few minutes. The irobot website offered tips for correcting this problem, which I followed. It did not help, however, irobot sent me a new unit. The new unit would not run at all. The website had a fix for this too, but to no avail. I now have my third unit which is running fine as of this writing (I’ve only had this one a week.) I still recommend the roomba vacuum because it is a great time and work saver, I think my problems have been because my house is harder to keep clean than your average home.
