My fiance and I are renovating a house, and we’ve put this little hand vac through its paces. Some of the jobs probably called for a Shop-Vac, but the Dirt Devil worked like a charm. Not wimpy like the Black and Decker hand vac my parents used to have, which couldn’t have picked up a prostitute in Times Square.
The Dirt Devil’s rotating brush is good for large areas, and with a flip of the front panel you can use the stretchy hose with or without its narrow nozzle attachment — great for corners and crevices, along baseboards and stairs. The hose attachment is especially nice for someone who sheds their long hair all over the house like I do, because long hair can get wound around a vacuum brush and ruin the appliance.
My fiance got this vac for a gift several years ago, so it’s seen a lot of use on stairs, closets — everywhere a big vac can’t go.
I was especially impressed when I spilled potting soil all over the off-white carpet, and the Dirt Devil slurped it right up — nary a speck was missed. And since it didn’t roll heavily back and forth across the carpet, it didn’t grind the dirt in like a big vac would have.
The Dirt Devil Ultra is a great vac, really, for anyone who ever has small messes (or hard-to-reach spaces) to clean up.
