Great vacuum - Bissell 3750 Lift Off Bagless Upright Vacuum If you can find one of these, buy it. I'd done my homework and picked out another model from Sears but it was out ...
Our family had always purchased Hoover vacuums. When I found myself in my own apartment without a vacuum, I purchased a basic Hoover. This unit lasted for a very short period of time before the height adjustment broke apart rendering the unit all but useless on anything other than a bare floor.
I shopped long and hard for a quality vacuum that offered the latest technology, above average performance, versatility, and at a reasonable price. The Bissell 3750 Lift Off fit the bill perfectly. The designers at Bissell really put their heads together and attempted to put everything their potential buyers wanted into a user friendly, versatile vacuum. The design is sleek and modern, quite functional, and compact. Earlier models come in blue, the most common color is candy apple red, and the newest color I’ve seen is silver gray.
What the designers have successfully done is to combine all of the features of an upright, and all the features of a canister vacuum, into one easy to use versatile unit. This is in addition to designing the vacuum so it can carry all of its attachments on board well within reach of the user. The Bissell 3750 Lift Off comes with a good variety of those accessories too. A medium length flexible/expandable tube, a very cleaver telescoping extension, an edger attachment, and the upholstry brush which in the latest 3750-1 models is powered. There is more. This vacuum features the latest bagless technology, and a HEPPA filtration system in addition to the standard filtration methods. The cord is more than adequate at about 30′ in length, and stores neatly on hooks built into the side of the unit which allows you to quick release the whole cord by flipping the upper hook downward. I also like the open top above the main beater bar. This is covered with clear plastic which enables you to see when and how well the beater bar is working. The handle is released by stepping on a good sized pedal at the rear of the base. The handle will lay all the way down on the floor so you can push the unit under tables and other low lying furniture.
Keep reading, there is more. There are two power switches on the front top of the main unit well withing easy reach of the user. The left switch is a power cut off for the main beater bar, and the right switch is the main motor power. They have designed this unit so that when the power switches are both on, but the handle is in the upright position, the beater bar turns off. An excellent feature. You turn off the beater bar power if you are going to be using the vacuum on bare floors where it is not required. The cut off feature also prevents the beater bar from running when you convert to canister mode. When you are finished with the floors, you can do the stairs, curtains, and upholstry without having to lug the entire vacuum around. Just squeeze the button on the canister unit and lift it off of the upright base, and your ready to clean canister style. The canister has little feet on it so you can sit it down while you work. It also comes with a strap so you can carry it hands free while you work.
One of the few negatives I found with the unit is that the flexible/expanding tube on the canister is fairly stiff. If you sit the canister down to do your cleaning this causes the canister to want to tip over. On the newest 3750-1 models, the vacuum comes with a powered upholstry brush, so look for this -1 model. This works by using the vacuum air which spins an internal turbine causing the little beater brush to run. It works very well and makes for much easier cleaning of stairs and small areas. The bagless canister is about 2 quarts in size and is easily accessed from the front of the unit. Simply move the lever to the right and slip the canister out and dump into your trash can. I find that emptying the canister during normal vacuuming after each room or two keeps the unit running at peak vacuum. If you have pets or other circumstances where the canister would fill more rapidly, you should empty it more often. This is seen as a negative to some, but I find that its not much trouble given the pluses this unit has to offer.
As for power and cleaning efficiency. The Bissell 3750 Lift Off has plenty of power and picks up dirt I never knew was there. It has the ability to deep clean into your carpet and get that ground in dirt out. The vacuum head is a little wider than a normal vacuum, cutting your cleaning time a little, and both sides are edge cleaners so you do not have to get turned around to do your edges. I’ve heard some users state that the unit is heavy. Compared to my cheap Hoover, I think they feel the same or the Bissell is a little lighter. The unit rolls very easily and when using the canister alone I feel that the weight is just right and not cumbersome.
As I said, this vacuum was very well thought out, and I commend Bissell for a job well done. I’ve had my unit now for 3 months and I really like it a lot, and I am glad I made this purchase. Its very hard to find this vacuum on sale. On average the right price is about $179 which is about the lowest I saw while shopping. None the less and most importantly, this vacuum is an excellent value for $179.
