When my mother wanted me to find her a steam cleaner, I had found a Hoover SteamVac LS for her. (I have a review on that product as well, just in case you were wondering) We were very impressed with performance of the SteamVac, so impressed that we decided when we needed a vacuum cleaner, we would look for a Hoover vacuum cleaner as well. Her old vacuum cleaner is a Hoover, but she had purchased it back in the early 80’s, and even though it is still running strong, we both realize that there are better, more efficient vacuum cleaners out there. So, once again, I was set to the task of finding a new vacuum cleaner for my mother. (aren’t I a great son? *wink*)

At the time that I was looking for the Hoover of my mother’s dreams, most of the other vacuum cleaning companies have various versions of bagless vacuum cleaners, so when Hoover came out with their bagless upright, I was thrilled beyond belief. (They have since come out with the Windtunnel Bagless I have noticed. I can imagine that unit sucks the color right out of the carpet. *grin*) At the time Hoover was making claims that their bagless upright is the best cleaning bagless upright available, and I definitely wanted to see that for myself. Let the games begin!

When I went out looking for this particular vacuum cleaner, it was still in New on the market, so not even most mail order, or on-line catalogs had it in stock, yet surprisingly enough Wal-Mart had it in their local stores and for a reasonable price too. At times it pays to make a drive to the store on occasion. I purchased one of the units, zipped back to the house and proceeded to get into a gadget geek mode. (it’s a tech thing) The first thing I had noticed is that there’s not much assembly to be done with this vacuum cleaner, but what little assembly I had to do was easy with the supplied manual. The instructions are simple and straightforward and the illustrations are very good. In no time, I was ready to make my first test flight. (Or is that test drive? Perhaps test clean?)

I plugged in the long 33 ft. cord, flipped the red the rocker switch, and even I knew within the first few sweeps that we had a winner in this vacuum cleaner. Its light weight will make it easy for my mother to do this in the future. The bagless sucked out the dirt that the old Hoover couldn’t touch, so much so that I had to empty the canister quite a few times in one room before I was finished with that room.Don’t get me wrong this beats changing bags any day. The Hoover has a really nice light in the front, to make sure nothing big slips into the vacuum cleaner and it also has a hose with several attachments, but I had found that if you have to clean upholstery it is best to have a canister vacuum cleaner to do that job. This unit is made to clean floors, and it does it’s job well.

The unit incorporates a twin chamber system, one chamber captures all of the dirt while the other chamber filters out the fine dust with the help of a large HEPA cartridge. There is another HEPA filter on the side, for extremely fine dust particles and between the two filters they keep the room’s air dust free. Needless to say I was quite impressed with its performance so much so that I cleaned two more rooms for my mother. (I told you I am a good son. *wink*)

In conclusion, for the money, you can’t go wrong with the Hoover Bagless Upright. It’s well built, light weight, and it just plain sucks! (And when it comes to carpet cleaning that is a very good thing. *smile*)
