I purchased this Bosch after really settling on a Hoover canister-type that has a shoulder strap. Both have non-powered floor/carpet tool with no revolving brush. Both are lightweight. I have an upright Hoover that has great power and is self-propelled, but weighs a ton and it’s crippled on carpeting with my dog’s long fine (Irish Setter) hairs. But I settled on the Bosch (about $80 more) and so far I think I made the right choice

The little droid is cute and mobile with oversized wheels. It’s well-balanced but even if it tips, it will roll on its back with no ill effect. It certainly lives up to its moniker of ‘compact’, but it’s not short of essential features to me. First it has an infinite speed control; essential in vacuuming loose throw rugs. And it is quiet…really quiet! I wasn’t sure it was vacuuming very well compared to the upright Hoover that sounds like its sucking the life from the carpet (until in starts to squeak and groan under the strain of dog hair). As far as I can tell, I was wrong. It has a strong suction almost equal to that of a higher priced canister or upright.

The handle is very comfortable and the (short-17′) power cord retracts neatly into the body. Comes with easily securable metal extension tubes and there is a full bag light. It also will not run if the bag is ajar. It has a cleverly designed combo crevice and brush tool that fits onto a clip secured to the wand. No lights, or other bells and whistles. So in this respect it’s pretty straightforward. it carries a one-gallon bag

It deftly dispenses with debris and hair, but I really don’t know how to assess it’s deep cleaning. I’m sure I’ll find an occasion to test it out.

Now it does push harder on carpet as compared to the high end upright. It has no wheels or carpet height adjustment on the floor brush so you’re actually pushing it over the carpet. The suction control helps compensates for this, but it certainly doesn’t glide over carpet like the self-propelled. The floor tool does have a hard floor setting, however.

I live in a carpeted twp-bedroom apartment so this is an ideal vacuum for this setting, especially if your dog has long hair. It also would be a great backup that’s easy to transport or for hardware floors.

One point of clarification. This is NOT a Health Plus model The BSA 2100UC is the Compact Plus, but the Health Guard moniker belongs to the 2200 model. Oddly enough you can purchase separately the various filters to essentially (as best I can figure it) upgrade to the Health Guard. That said this model does come with a special air filtration bag, but it’s not HEPA or anything close I suspect.
