First let me say that my review is not hype. This is a great vacuum, I’ve owned it for around 5 years and if it sounds too good to be true, for once ignore the old adage, this is good and true. The Rainbow Technologies E series Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum is costly, in fact it cost more than my most recent used car, but it’s worth every penny. I don’t expect to buy another vacuum in my lifetime. I expect the Rainbow E series to out live me. I plan to take proper care if me and it so that’s a very long life.

Many vacuum manufacturers make their money by selling new upgrades of their basic product over and over again. Their vacuums are not built to last and the manufacturer doesn’t really stand behind their product. They also make money on replaceable vacuum bags. Let’s say an average vacuum bag costs $3.00. If you change them as often as you should you’re going to spend a lot of vacuum bags over the life of your vacuum. And let’s be honest many vacuum owners don’t change their bags as often as they should.

I’ve tried all types of vacuums, bagged that belched dust and bag-less with really disgusting dust holders that were rarely able to keep all the dust inside the container and were a mess to deal with.

I have respiratory allergies and one day, I just got fed up with smelling and seeing as much dust coming out of the vacuum as was going in. Enough was enough. A friend tried to sell me a Rainbow vacuum about 5 years before that day. The cost was prohibitive. He had moved so I called the area distributor. He came and demonstrated the vacuum. We bought it and have enjoyed it ever since.

We bought the whole set. So we have the vacuum which also washes rugs and acts as a Hepa air filter. It inflates things as needed, washes the kitchen floor, can do dry vac jobs, and can even pick up bowling balls and nuts and bolts if I need it to.

But what you want to know and what I want to tell you is about the day to day use of the vacuum. It does an outstanding job of vacuuming our rugs. The dirt goes into the water reservoir. The only thing that comes out while the vacuum is running is cleaned air.

Yes, you have to take the water reservoir out every time you use it, dump the dirty water, wash the reservoir and dry it before putting it back in the vacuum. That part is messy and time consuming and some people won’t take that time but will leave the water in the reservoir for the next time they vacuum. That’s a mistake. This vacuum will last for many, many years but you have to treat it well just as your car will last longer and work better if you do regular maintenance.

We use the vacuum to deep clean our mattresses. We all have dead skin that gets into the mattresses. Bed bugs are supposed to be on the rise around the country according to the news. Bed bugs and cleanliness are related. When you deep clean your bed, great things happen. I sometimes have this little cough at night. When we vacuum the mattress and put our pillows in a plastic bag and then suck all the air out and all the junk in the pillow as well, I don’t have that pesky cough.

We have used the upholstery cleaner and have vacuumed our couch. You can use this to vacuum vents. You can use this to vacuum the lint part of your drier. We have used the rug cleaner and have washed and dried our carpet. The rug cleaner does a great job on stains. We have really enjoyed using the machine as a Hepa Air cleaner especially during the times of the year when we have allergy problems and when someone in the house has the flu or other respiratory problem. We use it as a preventative in trying to keep sickness from spreading to everyone in the house and it works. You can aid fragrances to the vacuum when it’s being used as an air cleaner if you want to change the fragrance of your home. This is nice after you’ve cooked something strong.

A negative is that when the Rainbow E series Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum is in vacuum mode, it is very loud. It has a very powerful motor, so that’s the trade off. We don’t mind. When it is in air cleaner mode it it so quiet, you can barely hear it. I don’t change the water daily when it’s in air cleaner mode but do watch that the water not get too low.

The power nozzle trigger-control is another nice feature. When you’re vacuuming, you really can feel the force of the suction and the vacuum practically moves itself but if you need to stop, you don’t have to go back to the canister, you can just let up on the trigger and stop for a moment.

Some people complain that the vacuum is heavy. It is not going to topple over on you that’s for sure but the heaviness isn’t a major problem because the canister doesn’t become heavy until the water reservoir is filled and placed in the canister. All the other parts are very sturdy and well made but are not heavy at all. I’m not a large person and not overly strong but have no problem with the machine.

We have taken it to the rainbow dealer twice for repairs, which are free because the vacuum has a life time guarantee. Once the brush roller needed to be adjusted because hair had gotten wrapped around it. The second time part above the reservoir needed to be replaced because we hadn’t been cleaning it as often as we should have. It was also free. I have to say I really appreciate Rexair standing behind their product. When you have a cheap vacuum and something goes wrong you toss it adding to environmental and land fill problems. With the rainbow vacuum you take it in and they fix it usually in minutes and you’re ready to go again for who knows how many more years. I do live in a large metropolitan area which makes these little trips easy but I think Rainbow is pretty well distributed around the US. The web site has a dealer locator function.
