I’ve had my Floormate for a couple of years now and don’t use it as much as I thought that I would. This is because it has never performed as well as I thought it would and I’ve gone back to traditional floor cleaning methods. We have saltillo tile floors throughout the house and I think that this contributes to the ineffectiveness of the Floormate. When I’m using the Floormate on a completely level surface it works beautifully, great suction and cleaning ability. However with tile there’s that grout area that makes the floor become uneven, and every time the Floormate encounters the uneven area the suction breaks and the entire floor cleaning experience deteriorates.
My Floormate no longer dispenses cleaner properly. The machine is supposed to dispense the cleaner with a lever on the upright handle, not mine, I have to manually poor the cleaner onto the floor surface and then use the machine to scrub and suction the cleaner up. So, you might think, what’s the use? Exactly, what’s the use? I don’t know why the dispensing part of the machine doesn’t work anymore, it just stopped after using the machine only three times. I keep the Floormate because I spent $175 on it and would feel cheated if I had to throw it out. It sits in the broom closet awaiting a day that I have a completely smooth surface to use it on. Though the machine will still be challenged because part of its functionality is not in working order. I think the concept is great, but the engineering needs improvement. The working parts should last under normal use and with this machine they did not.
You might wonder what the machine does well? It rolls well, it’s not too heavy and it turns good. It’s easy to clean and all of the parts come off so that they can be cleaned easily. Once they are clean and dry they go back together without hassle.
I’m still searching for that machine that will make the mop obsolete. The Floormate doesn’t meet the needs of the tile floor owner, if anything it builds up your hopes only to discover that you’ve thrown away your mop too soon.
